Free & licenses

Cobander is free — the whole app, every song, forever. A license is who you are in the band: Roadie is you ($10, once), VIP is the whole band ($60, once).

What's free

• Everything: Write, Record, Mix, Practice, the Band page, sync, updates, every song. Windows and Mac.
• No time limit and nothing switches off. After a month, Cobander asks nicely once in a while. That's all.

Roadie: you, in every band ($10)

• A Roadie key is yours: your name, your character, your XP and your scores on the leaderboard in every band folder you join.
• Paste it once in ⚙ → Enter a key. Cobander keeps it and quietly copies it into each band folder you open (_keys/), so your bandmates' Cobanders know it's you.
• It checks itself on your computer, never phones home, and never expires.

VIP: the whole band ($60)

• One VIP key covers everyone in the band folder (up to 8 people) — nobody needs a key of their own — plus your band's name on the VIP wall, on cobander.com and in the app.
• It lives in the shared folder, so whoever pastes it covers everyone.
• Keys bought before Roadie went per person are VIP keys now.

Guests

• Once somebody in a band folder has a key, people without one join as guests: they play, record, edit and practice in every song, and get a Practice score — but no name on the board, no XP, and they can't start new songs.
• A band folder takes two guests. A third can listen and practice, not edit, until they get a Roadie key.
• A band folder where nobody has a key yet is all free players, as it always was.

Enter a key

1. Copy the whole key from the email. It looks like cob1.xxxx.xxxx. Extra spaces and line breaks from the email are fine.
2. In Cobander, click ⚙ → Enter a key, paste it, and click Save the key.

Lost the key

• Reply to the email it came in, or write to noods@cobander.com. It gets re-sent.
• Keys can be switched off if they're posted publicly or resold — you'd get a fresh one. A switched-off key just stops counting; nothing is locked and no songs are lost.

Refunds

• If the key doesn't work and it can't be fixed within a few days of you saying so, you get your money back in full.
• Change-of-mind refunds within 14 days are fine as long as the key hasn't been used. Just ask.

The VIP wall

• Bands with a VIP license are listed under ⚙ → VIPs and on cobander.com.
• Your name goes up once you've confirmed how you'd like it to read. Names that are offensive or aren't yours can be declined.

Privacy, in short

• The app sends nothing anywhere. No accounts, no telemetry, no crash reports.
• It makes two read-only network requests: checking for updates, fetching the VIP list, and fetching the list of switched-off keys.
• Speech-to-text, chord detection, key detection and pitch check all run on your computer.
